Pusey - One of the outstanding business men of Chester County, Jesse D. Pusey of Avondale is not only the proprietor of the Pusey Studebaker Agency but also the owner and operator of the Avondale Mushroom Express Company. He is an active citizen of his community, holding public office and giving his support to various organizations and societies working for the development of Avondale and Chester County. "Jesse D. Pusey was born in London Grove Township, Chester County, Pennsyl- vania, on September 2, 1902, a son of Philip C. and Hannah H. Pusey. Philip C. Pusey, who was born at London Grove Township, Chester County, began life as a farmer but later established himself at Avondale as a merchant and automobile dealer, interests which occupied him until his death on July 3, 1930. Hannah H. Pusey, his wife, who was born near Chatham, Chester County, died January 4, 1941. "After passing through the elementary schools of Avondale and graduating from the Avondale High School as a member of the class of 1921, Jesse D. Pusey attended the Pennsylvania State University for two and a half years. Then, returning to Avondale, he became associated with his father, Philip C. Pusey, who was in partnership with J. Norman Pusey, in the retail hardware and farming implement business, an enterprise to which Mr. Pusey added the Avondale agency for the Studebaker Automobile Company. Upon the death of his father, Philip, Jesse D. Pusey, in 1930, withdrew from the hardware and farming implement section of the business and gave his attention to the retailing of automobiles. He has continued in this field through the present time, his Studebaker agency, established in 1910, being the oldest in his section of southeastern Pennsyl- vania. In addition to his automobile activities, Mr. Pusey, in 1933, estab- lished the Mushroom Express Company of Avondale, a thriving business which is engaged in the purchasing and merchandising and delivery of mushrooms through- out southeastern Pennsylvania, employing a fleet of sixteen trucks and having a payroll averaging some thirty men and women. Mr. Pusey is the treasurer and manager of this organization. A member of the Republican party politically and belonging to the London Grove Friends Meeting, Mr. Pusey at the present time is the chief of the Avondale Fire Department and a member of the Kennett Square Lions Club. "Jesse D. Pusey married on November 7, 1925, Nelle T. Jones of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Thomas Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Pusey are the parents of three children: 1. Sara T., born June 2, 1927. 2. Dorothy Ann, born December 19, 1929. 3. Philip C., born February 5, 1932."
